Kids always think that Lego robots are just for FLL or for fun. What they don't know that robots and STEAM is the future. Robots and STEAM are already being applied in many areas, like in medicine (for example, in combating deadly diseases like cancer), in the field of combat in the form of exosuits, drones, and such, and even in your school. Think about how the world will be in 5, 10, or 20 years from now. The country will be in high demand for STEAM careers, and this generation will fuel the need for the country, whether as a doctor, a soldier, or a teacher. But lets start talking about now. You can have your students learn about STEAM, especially in robotics. You can have students do real world problems about STEAM, and such. But the best way to have students learn directly with STEAM; namely, robotics. You can have them build robots to solve some real world problems so they can have an idea of how to solve problems "out there". An example would be clearing debris from a sinkhole that happened with a fake Legos example. You can also have them program their robots with different speeds to see how far it travels, and/or see the angle at which the Lego robot steers each time. Have them build a robot that can do this job. It's a long term project; a few days at least, and a month at most, but who knows? The same kids you taught could be helping the world 20 years from now.
